| Wednesday, May 26th, 2010 at 9:29 PM - Posting to LiveJournal
Well, I kind of went past the end date of Three Weeks for Dreamwidth, and in fact haven't been crossposting my entries to LJ for an entire month now. I've found this to be an interesting exercise...and in fact, I've decided that it was much easier than I thought it'd be for me to not post my entries on LJ. So, I expect this to be my last entry posted to my personal journal on LiveJournal. Maybe there will be certain LJ PSAs that I will want to crosspost, but those will be few and far between. If anyone on the LJ side wants to continue reading my entries, you're more than welcome on the Dreamwidth side. I have a whole bunch of invite codes (just let me know if you'd like one), or you can use OpenID--I should have the OpenID account of everyone I'm friends with on LJ also friended on DW. Or you're welcome to create a syndicated account on LJ of my DW feed ( http://janinedog.dreamwidth.org/data/rss )--though that will only show public entries. Oh, and you can also track my posts if you have a DW account. That said, I totally understand if you don't want to bother with coming over to DW to read my entries. I am okay with this--I've been doing it for a month now and haven't felt like I've been missing too much. Don't feel like you need to justify yourself to me or anything--it's okay, really. Also, I will continue to read my friends page on LJ (and comment as appropriate, though I don't comment too often). I may cut down on my friends list a little bit (not sure about that yet), but I still do and will continue to read LJ every day, just as I do with DW (and Facebook). So I would like to continue to be friended by those of you who currently friend me, so that I can still read your locked entries. Obviously, if you'd like to defriend me, you can, but I wanted to make sure it was clear that I do still want to be friended because I still want to read everyone's entries. I haven't yet decided what I'm doing with my current entries on LJ. I'm thinking I'll make everything private at some point. Not yet, though. I'll figure it out later. As an aside, some of you may or may not have already noticed that I'm not in the LJ IRC channels anymore. I randomly got disconnected one day, and then when I reconnected, I found out that my nick had become unregistered. If I wanted to go back into the (one) private channel I was in, I would have had to re-register and then contact someone about it. In the end, I decided that I wasn't doing much in LJ IRC anyway, besides reading the conversations sometimes. So, I took it as a sign and just logged off for good. I'm still around on various IM services, on DW (and DW IRC), on Facebook, and in email--so feel free to contact me if you need/want to. Also, I did want to say that this decision has nothing to do with any of you, if that wasn't obvious. It only has to do with where I'm comfortable having my online presence be now. I've slowly grown apart from LJ ever since I was laid off, and I'm okay with that. I don't really want to be on a ton of different sites anyway. :) Anyway, I suppose that's it. Feel free to contact me privately if you want to. This entry was crossposted from Dreamwidth. Read comment(s) // Reply via OpenID (yourusername.livejournal.com)

| Monday, April 26th, 2010 at 1:55 PM - Three Weeks for Dreamwidth
I'm slightly late on this, but I decided that I want to do Three Weeks for Dreamwidth, which starts today (see three_weeks_for_dw). Basically, it means for three weeks, content I write in here will only be on Dreamwidth, and not posted anywhere else. I'm crossposting this entry to LiveJournal just so those of you over there are aware of this, but after this entry, I won't be crossposting for the next three weeks. Remember, you can easily log into your OpenID account here on DW to read and comment on my entries. Just go here and use yourusername.livejournal.com as your OpenID URL (using your LJ username in there, of course). If you want, you can even track my posts so you get emailed whenever I post here. In the interest of hopefully having me post here more, please comment here if you have anything you'd like me to write about. Questions about my life (past, present, or future), my hobbies, whatever. I'm open to ideas! I won't guarantee that everything I post will be public, but I'll post something, at least! :) This entry was crossposted from Dreamwidth. Bold the ones you've read COMPLETELY, italicize the ones you've read part of. Watching the movie or the cartoon doesn't count. Abridged versions don't count either. BTW, according to the BBC if you've read 7 of these, you are above the average. ( The list )This entry was crossposted from Dreamwidth. I got an awesome email that I believe is probably a virus (it has an attachment). But the text of the email is amazing: To: Wittenberg Jock <baiyin@netrophic.com> From: Lisa Watley <tomograms@desteracs.com> Subject: Pumpkin-Glory, and the Little Pig that took the Poison Pills, and the Proud Body:Cess rather better than most Princes and Princesses were brought up, and so she said that the only thing they should be allowed to do different from other people was to make a mess. If any other persons were caught making a
mess they were banished; and there was another law that was perfectly awful." "What-was-it-go-ahead?" said the nephew, running all his words together,
he was so anxious to know. "Why, if any person was found clearing up anywhere, and it turned out to be a mess that the royal twins had made, the person was thrown from a tower." "Did it kill them?" the niece inquired, rather faintly. "Well, no, it didn't _kill_ them exactly, but it bounced them up pretty high. You see, they fell on a bed of India-rubber about twenty feet deep. It gave them a good scare; and that's the great thing in throwing persons from a
high tower." The Then it cuts off, and the attachment is called "plies.zip". Awesome, yes? This entry was crossposted from Dreamwidth. Read comment(s) // Reply via OpenID (yourusername.livejournal.com)

| Thursday, March 25th, 2010 at 5:21 PM - Ugh
So apparently LiveJournal has implemented a Classifieds section on the site, which appears to just be OLX embedded into the site. That's fine--I have nothing against classified ads on there, even if I will never use it. However, almost the first link you see is the Animals link. I click it, and I see a bunch of ads for puppy mill and backyard breeder puppies and kittens. Some examples: * T-Cup Size Yorkshire-Terrier puppies - "You can easily put them in your pocket and go shopping or something, no one will notice they are there." And they're so small that they have tons of health issues. * RAZORS EDGE PIT BULL PUPPIES - "NOT FOR FIGHTING" Right, with a name like "Razor's Edge"? * CKC Bull Terrier Puppies *** Must Sell Fast*** Shipping Available - "Registered w/ CKC" This is the "Continental Kennel Club", which is basically a dog registry for puppy mills, and doesn't actually hold any merit. A nice way to make more money on dogs that aren't bred well. There's so much evidence that buying puppies (and kittens, but I think it happens more with puppies) online is a really really bad idea--they tend to be sickly and have lots of genetic problems. The people selling them almost always are doing it just to make money. The conditions they're raised in tend to be horrible, too. I really don't think LiveJournal wants to be supporting this industry, even indirectly. I hope that they will consider at least removing that category from their classifieds page. Some information about puppy mills: HSUS's puppy mills pageASPCA's puppy mills pageWhat YOU Can Do To Help Make Pet Shops and Puppymills Go Away for GoodHate, fear and the politics of puppy-millsEdit: LJ is following up on this. Good to know that people there care about this issue. :) This entry was crossposted from Dreamwidth. Read comment(s) // Reply via OpenID (yourusername.livejournal.com)

We got tickets to see Lady Gaga in concert on August 17. It's going to be awesome--her concert is supposedly more like a musical than a traditional concert. I can't wait! :) And thanks to Mark for waking up to buy the tickets! :D This entry was crossposted from Dreamwidth. Read comment(s) // Reply via OpenID (yourusername.livejournal.com)
